Alpha or Beta? Exfoliators and Cleansers containing both offer

Without a doubt the daily use of a well formulated active exfoliator and cleanser containing both alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) will give you the best results if you have sun-damaged, dry or acne prone skin.

So what’s the difference between AHA’s and BHA’s?

AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic and lactic acids) are water soluble and they penetrate and exfoliate the top layer of skin allowing newer, healthier skin cells to show through. They are particularly useful in helping to enhance the appearance of sun damaged skin; diminish the appearance of wrinkles and stimulate collagen production.

BHA’s (Beta hydroxy acids, such as salicylic acid) are lipid (oil) soluble molecules. This characteristic allows salicylic acid to penetrate pores that contain sebum (oil) helping to exfoliate and unblock the pore itself. It also has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. This makes it particularly useful to use on oily and acneic skin prone to breakouts. Overall salicylic acid helps to increase cell turnover, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, assist in reducing skin pigmentation disorders, stimulate collagen production and unclog pores and normalise the lining of the pore helping to bring breakouts under control. So to achieve great results be sure to use an exfoliator containing both AHA’s and BHA  and make smoother, more radiant and healthier skin a reality!

The active 3 in 1 exfoliating scrub contains round, medium sized naturally based beads to gently exfoliate without scratching and irritating the skin. It can be used as a cleanser, exfoliating scrub and gentle peel.
